We also offer project management during asbestos removal projects. We provide daily reports to inform you of our provided services and we make sure that the project proceeds in a correct and structured way.

Real Estate

Through our asbestos surveys we are aiming for a safe living and working environment. Our consultants will be happy to give advice and make a risk assessment about possible asbestos containing materials present in the building. Other reasons to carry out an asbestos survey are: sales, removal of asbestos and demolition of the structure.

Quick-scan

The quick-scan will be conducted to determine if there is a presence of materials suspected of containing asbestos. The quick-scan is designed to detect existing asbestos suspicious applications in a structure and is often used in transactions in real estate. Furthermore, during the execution of a quick-scan no samples are taken and no destructive act is performed. Therefore a quick-scan is not appropriate for removal and demolition, but gives only an indication whether there are grounds for a closer survey.

Within the industrial sector, specific asbestos containing materials are used. Our professional organization has the appropriate expertise to analyse these applications within industrial plants, refineries and factories. Our consultants support you in the field of asbestos and refractory ceramic fibres within the strict safety policy of your industrial organization. Asbestos Surveys

The purpose of an asbestos survey is to determine the directly observable asbestos suspicious materials in a building, vessel, platform or industrial installation. The survey consists of several components such as: desk research / historical research, site inspection, sampling and a survey report.

Desk research / historical research

If possible the client must take care of providing documents showing that asbestos-containing materials are used in a vessel, object, platform, industrial plant or building. This can consist of general arrangements, plans, archives of renovations, descriptions of contaminations or incidents and any previously conducted asbestos removal activities.

Site inspection

Access to all areas needs to be possible during the execution of the asbestos survey. Materials suspected of containing asbestos will be sampled during the survey and will be analysed in an independent accredited laboratory.

Survey report

The asbestos survey report is the final product of the asbestos survey. The results of the survey will be described in this report. The risk of all asbestos containing materials present in the building, vessel, platform or industrial plant will be assessed. Depending on what kind of risks are present on the location, professional advice will be given in order to eliminate those risks.

Demolition

An additional survey is recommended when there is reasonable suspicion of the presence of not directly observable asbestos containing materials. This additional survey needs to be conducted prior to the demolition of a building, vessel, platform or industrial plant. The aim of this survey is to determine the presence of any hidden applications to prevent damage and contamination during the demolition of the building, vessel, platform or industrial plant.

Refractory ceramic fibres

In addition to the surveys for the presence of asbestos containing materials, there is also the possibility to include the presence of ceramic fibres within these surveys. This type of material is widely used especially in the maritime and industrial sector to isolate high temperatures. Similar as asbestos, refractory ceramic fibres also have a carcinogenic effect and therefore the same risks occur when people are exposed to these fibres.

Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) Surveys

Besides our asbestos surveys, Maritime Asbestos Solutions also provides Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) surveys. Think about a situation where your company wants to recycle a ship in an environmentally friendly way.

Such a survey should be carried out, for example, prior to the demolition of a vessel. During this survey the vessel will be inspected for the presence of several hazardous materials such as: PCBs, asbestos, PFOS, Ozone Depleting Substances and TBT. This type of survey will be an international obligation according to the Hong Kong Convention, RESOLUTION MEPC.269 (68).

Our organization has specially trained HazMat Experts to conduct the IHM surveys.

Contamination Surveys

During a contamination survey a risk assessment is carried out regarding the current and potential risks which are present on location. Such a survey will be advised in case of reasonable suspicion of an asbestos contamination.

In order to determine the current risk, air measurements will be carried out and the potential risk will be assessed by taking adhesive samples to determine the presence of asbestos fibres in dust. The samples taken will be analysed by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Based on the results of the survey an appropriate advice will be given on how to act further in this specific situation.

Project Management

Does your organization needs help in going through the process of safely remediating asbestos containing materials from A to Z? Our consultants have experience in supporting large-scale remediation projects in the maritime field, offshore, industrial sector and real estate.

Within the process from planning to the realization of the project multiple parties get involved for the removal of asbestos containing materials. Our organization ensures that the client comes first within this whole process. Do you need a central point of contact that will supervise the rest of the process and takes care of all the parties involved, our consultants will support your organization in a professional manner.
